Genealogy in the Comics: A Kids’ Lecture for Grownups
August 25 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
The Jewish Genealogy Society of Greater Washington, co-sponsored by the Bender Jewish Community Center, will present a special August meeting with speaker Daniel Horowitz, Genealogy Expert at MyHeritage. He will talk about how Hollywood and the movie industry included genealogy references and techniques in many of their productions. Comics and cartoons also used genealogy to intrigue and interest. He will show how these classics reveal family history and relationships–sometimes hidden and sometimes in plain view. Come and discover some of the characters’ family secrets you never knew were there.
Mr. Horowitz is responsible for outreach and liaison with genealogy societies, bloggers, and media, as well as lecturing and attending conferences worldwide. He is involved in several crowdsource digitization and transcription projects and holds a board-level position at the Israel Genealogy Society Research Association. As a sought-after speaker, he will be speaking on other topics at the July 28-August 2 International Association of Jewish Genealogy Societies (IAJGS) Conference in Cleveland and the August 21-24 Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) Conference in Washington.
Starting at 1:00, JGSGW will sponsor Maven Tables and Schmooze prior to Mr. Horowitz’s 1:30 presentation. This will give program attendees the opportunity to meet each other and stop by an experts’ table for genealogical assistance and guidance.
This event is free and open to the public.
