Current Projects

Preserve the Pensions

A project to digitize the War of 1812 pension records. Fundraising is complete but digitization efforts continue with images made available free to the public as they are completed.

Records Preservation & Access Committee

The committee works with agencies throughout the country to establish a system by which records at risk can be identified and preserved.

Past Projects

Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System

In 1999, FGS and the Genealogical Society of Utah, with support from the National Park Service, the National Archives, and the Civil War Trust, completed the data entry of more than five million names.

Ancestry World Archives Project

In 2008, FGS partnered with Ancestry.com in a record preservation and access initiative called the World Archives Project allowing thousands of people around the world to help preserve history.

U. S.-Mexican War Soldier Database

FGS and the National Park Service’s Palo Alto Battlefield National Historic Park partnered to create a free searchable database of the 130,000 soldiers of the U.S.-Mexican War.

 

Malcolm H. Stern-NARA Gift Fund

Aids the microfilming of valuable research materials now preserved in the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in Washington, D.C.
